Monte57 Scholarship Awarded to Lindsae Norman
(scroll down for story)

Thanks to Carol Hinde for representing our class at the ceremony.
Also, thanks to Max for taking pictures!
Carol Hinde was at the Montevideo High School Awards Ceremony to present the Monte57 scholarship. Carol said that Lindsae's, parents are Kim and Lynette, and that Lindsae is going to Bemidji State University where she intends to major in Education. Lindsae is a lifeguard at the Monte pool for the summer.

Carol went on to report that Darwins used our class as an example in his closing speech to the class of 08 saying that they should think of others and when they have a class reunion. If each member would give $10, they could give a $1000 scholarship to someone and if they and other classes did that every year.....think of what our scholarship program could be.
One other class gave a scholarship - it was the class of '77 for $500.
One added note....Darwin told the class of 08 to report their scholarship as a loan......he makes them sign a pomisory note when they pick up the money and if they don't fulfill their obligations they have to repay. He says that colleges deduct the amount of a SCHOLARSHIP from any aid they may provide so report it as a loan.

The annual Montevideo Scholarship Tea celebrated its 20th anniversary Wednesday night last week, and there was every reason to celebrate. The total dollar amount of the scholarships given reached an all-time high.
Ninety-nine scholarships totaling $139,750 were awarded to 71 graduating Montevideo Senior High School seniors. The accumulated total of scholarships given to 1,675 Montevideo graduates since the Montevideo Scholarship Fund was established in 1959 by the late Claude Dziuk is now $1,478,150.
And while there were many happy scholarship recipients at the MSHS gymnasium, the biggest smile to be seen was on the face of scholarship fund coordinator Darwin TeBeest. This year was the 20th year he has presided over the tea, going back to its inception.
Several new scholarships were awarded, including the Class of 1957, the Class of 1977, Mel'ody Lanes, Todd Brown Memorial, Snowdrifters, Claudia E. Dziuk Memorial, and Class of 2008 & Senior Radio Scholarship.
